Melancholy and sadness, heartbreak and longing; painful feelings do not subside in our most comfortable spaces. Sadness doesn’t stop at your doorstep, you cannot wipe it off your shoes or leave it hanging outside on a coat rack. I address the persistent nature of these feelings in cute, vibrant, acrylic paintings, romanticizing mundane spaces with a bittersweet undertone and concepts derived from my own poetry and experiences. My art looks at the world through rose-tinted glass, not to warp or deny the reality of pain, but to see the beauty in tear-stained pillows and realize that heartbreak is just love with nowhere left to go.
the Sad Flower Club is what I call myself, Mickey Caulfield, and my collection of art. it is also how I refer to the community that has formed around me; if you enjoy my art, you’re a part of the Sad Flower Club, too!
